Eclipse Tattoo Barcelona 5º aniversario

Como pasa en las mejores series, cumplimos cinco temporadas en Eclipse Tattoo Barcelona. Para los puristas de las cronologías, abrimos puertas el 5 de Febrero de 2018. Sin embargo, Carlo, Rotor y yo empezamos a preparar la apertura del local y a volvernos locos con las obras en junio de 2017. Así que para nosotros…¡es el sexto aniversario! Y eso sin tener en cuenta la etapa de génesis previa que supuso la fundación de nuestro colectivo base Proyecto Eclipse, que a día de hoy sigue vivo gracias a nuestra tienda online.

En la apertura y previamente a ella también, nos acompañaron Anana y Nacho Eterno. Además, pudimos contar con la compañía de nuestro amigo Mark Mason durante los veranos. Desde entonces, el grupo ha crecido muchísimo y pasado por varios e inevitables cambios. A día de hoy somos Carlo, Rotor, Anana, Iñaki, Tayri, Pablo Sinalma, Lean, Misharuka, Olracle III, Miriam, Vitorio y yo mismo. También en una corta etapa nos acompañaron Jorge Teran y Numi. Además, encabezando la lista de sospechosos habituales, hemos tenido con nosotros a Rafa de Blas en diversas ocasiones. Y sin tatuar pero sabiendo mucho de tattoo, agendas, y redes sociales, nuestro amigo y manager precovidiano Oriol. Cerrando el bloque nuclear, no nos olvidamos de Oliver que nos ha echado una mano en eventos y viajes siempre que se lo hemos pedido.

¿Vamos con los invitados? Por supuesto. No nos vamos a quedar atrás a la hora de intentar nombrar a todos aquellos que han hecho el esfuerzo de coger una maleta y, en muchas ocasiones, jugársela con una agenda casi o totalmente vacía. En otras, y con el tiempo, casi todo el mundo ha logrado trabajar mucho y bien en Eclipse y eso nos enorgullece muchísimo. Todas estas personas mencionadas, ya fuera viniendo una o muchas veces, se merecen las gracias por su contribución a nuestra forma de desarrollar esta profesión y por proteger la cultura del tattoo a pie de calle. Esperamos que os sintáis parte de la historia de Eclipse y no os de demasiado vértigo ser unos bichos raros.

¡Pero…! No solo de tatuadores vive el homínido. Recordemos a nuestros colaboradores, que nos han ayudado en muchos proyectos de distinta naturaleza, pero principalmente en lo que a merch se refiere: Miki y Albert de Newtownlab, Xavi y Paco de Impressionart, Pere y Agustin de Flaix Offset, Terry de Black Bible Books, Jose María del ya desaparecido ArtPlus, Gemma de Serigrafía Monostereo y el dealer favorito de todos: Lorenzo de Okulus bookshop. Para las materias primas de lujo, Max de Og Tattoo Supply. Para el hardware y el taller, nadie mejor que Eugeni y Tomás de Hardcraft Company.
En el tema de comunicación gráfica, contamos también en su momento con Pol de Branca Studio para diversos eventos y con El Deletrista para hacer a mano nuestro lettering en la entrada y fachada. Por último, nuestra queridísima y genial diseñadora gráfica de cabecera Nuria Lopez Mora. Mención a parte, por todo el proyecto de reforma arquitectónica del local y posterior acompañamiento en un sinfín de problemas, Javi y sus socios en Estudio Fàbric.

Y ya que estamos, hablemos de lo que realmente hemos venido a hacer en este post, un poco de info sobre el evento del aniversario en sí. Vamos a dividir la celebración en dos días para organizar mejor el espacio y las energías. En la primera jornada montaremos un flash day con invitados de lujo. Solo durante el sábado 14 de octubre, tendréis la oportunidad de tatuaros con :

Si os interesa aprovechar la oportunidad para tatuaros con uno o más de estos artistas, contactadles directamente. Cada uno gestiona su agenda. Al ser un solo día de trabajo, las citas van a volar así que no tardéis ni un segundo más en darle a los botones del instagram.
Al día siguiente, el domingo 15 de octubre, montamos un art market con gente animosa vendiendo su artesanía y movidas autoeditadas además de contar con nuestra propia selección de merch por parte de los residentes de Eclipse Tattoo. Para amenizar tanta intensidad, cerveza artesana de calidad y A Ultima Flecha pinchando su set durante toda la jornada.
Y así, de esta ambivalente forma, damos salida a las dos pulsiones que han cimentado la identidad del estudio desde su creación. Todos aquellos que asistáis a la celebración tendréis la oportunidad de llevaros tattoos y merchandise realmente originales. Por mi parte además, voy a intentar llegar con un diseño de parche conmemorativo solo disponible para los asistentes al evento.

Para acabar, curiosos vosotros colegas y clientes, si os da por ejercitar el dedo haciendo scroll en nuestro instagram, podréis ver la enorme cantidad de trabajo que hemos sacado adelante en estos cinco primeros años. Tattoos, merch y arte original distribuido por todo el mundo, publicaciones, mercadillos, exposiciones, flash days, presentaciones de libros y como no…convenciones internacionales también. Hemos creído siempre en hacer las cosas como un colectivo y eso nos ha llevado a menudo un esfuerzo mental y físico extra, pero ha valido la pena. Tenemos la pared llena de polaroids en las que aparecéis con nosotros para dar buena fe de ello.
Lo hemos pasado bien, lo seguimos pasando bien. Hemos sobrevivido a la pandemia y al algoritmo. Estamos en muy buena forma. Nos gusta tatuar y os invitamos de nuevo a la casa de los raros en Barcelona esperando que sigáis viniendo cinco años más. La entrada es gratis y la ilusión también, así que no faltéis.

Well! It’s been a couple of active months working at the studio and also in Paris for the first time. Going on and ending big projects like this huge lion and also one sitting tattoos too. Starting with this big one, my sincere acknowledgment and respect goes for Eric. He sat like a champ four times with almost no recovery time in between. A serious planning and will power is all you need to succeed with your front piece!! Thanks for picking up this concept from my book and letting me adapt it to your needs. You are great.

Next piece is the newest addition to the always wise and powerful Pablo Tomás, one of the best tattooers of his generation without a single doubt. Just check his work, it’s amazing. He asked me for a version of the famous sculpture by Hugo Rheinhold called «Affe mit Schädel». Monkeys are clearly out of my natural book of ideas but this one was too good to refuse. At the end, it turned out to be a really fun tattoo to do.

Last one at Eclipse was for Yuri. I always have fun investigating harpies in many forms. In this occasion, I just turned a neo traditional tattoo concept into something more of my own. I’m glad that he moved on with my idea of mixing a clearly inspired japanese falcon with a more western girl and how it turned out. Most of the time, risking with new options is super cool if you are grounded in classic icons.

And now, the turn for Paris. It was my first time there at Matière Noire Tattoo but not my first time in the city. I must say I’ve always liked Paris and France in general, but this time was the best. I’m looking forward to be back as soon as possible to end some unfinished works and also to start new ones. As I said, the experience was great and I felt super welcomed. I’m happy to travel around Europe with my big book of drawings and see how they connect with my colleagues and clients. Trust me, it’s a nice shared experience to discover new ideas and finding body spots to tattoo them. Tablets are great but cannot match the feeling of spending some relaxed time turning the pages of a flash book while talking about your new tattoo. That’s my game and I love it. And, I’m also grateful to work on custom projects that are normally bigger and take another kind of preparation. Both ways, always on paper!

My special thanks to Louis, the shop’s manager, for taking care of me and getting tattooed. Alix, was the first time but not the last! Thanks for trusting me with such a good combo project. Finally, Jimi and Alex, always getting back from our Barcelona days, thank you a million times.

Berlin & Barcelona

Well! I’m back from Berlin. This was my first time in the city and also at Das Kabinett. The experience has been great and I had the best of times working there. My special thanks goes to Alexander for following me since my Dortmund trips and getting this big goat tattooed. It was an honour once again.

Also, after many years of knowing him, I faced the incredible challenge of tattooing Matteo Radentti’s head…! No joke! Matteo is the studio owner and he needs no further introduction. His work is out of this world and he helped me through the whole process. I know it was painful but worthy too!

I really hope to establish a Berlin-Barcelona bridge to work there as many times per year as possible. I really enjoyed the city and working with all Das Kabinett’s team was a pleasure as I early mentioned. Please, if you want to get tattooed, just write me an e-mail and I will add you to my waiting list. As soon as it’s possible to go I will contact you back to ask for dates and availability. Back in Barcelona I had the chance of tattooing Carlos again, one of my oldest clients in town who asked me for a special version of this tattoo about the plague doctor. Also, Dan, a classic client and tattoo collector from our Aloha Tattoos days, came for this Snaggletooth on his leg. You both know it was a pleasure! I’m always open to Motörhead tattoo proposals, don’t doubt it.

Finally, after almost three years, I was lucky enough to take some good pictures of this big harpy which is also tattooed on Carlo’s leg. This was done right after the lockdown for the fucking Covid pandemy. It was, back then, and until now, one of my favourite projects to work in.

Sol Invictus

Todos los años, Artplus bcn, uno de los talleres de estampación serigráfica con mejor reputación e historia de Barcelona, le encarga a un ilustrador o diseñador que realice la felicitación de Navidad de la empresa. Esa felicitación, acaba siendo impresa con su correspondiente carpeta y acaba en las manos de unos pocos afortunados ya que siempre son ediciones limitadas. Esta vez, después de colaborar con ellos durante casi diez años, ¡me ha tocado el turno! Sol Invictus es la obra original que realicé para la ocasión y la podéis comprar en mi tienda online. El soporte es una tela sobre cartón y la he realizado con acrílicos.

I’ve been working on this design for a new Eclipse T-shirt for some time and the wait is finally over. You can buy it through the studio online store right now. Stock is limited to 50 units! They have been printed with discharge on Stanley Stella Creator T-shirt. They are 100% organic cotton. Once again, the expertise of my friends at Newtownlab has been crucial! I also want to give thanks to my friend Pablo Sinalma for modeling and to Pol Vila for the amazing work he has done with the photoshooting for this and other Eclipse merchandise.

The original illustration is now on Sean Gamill’s private collection in Malta. Thank you very much for buying it Sean!

El Camino patch

Hi there! I present you my new patch : EL CAMINO. It’s a huge one, 20 cm height, full embroidery as usual. It took me a long time and a little bit of extra work but it’s finally available through Eclipse’s online store. This is a limited edition, only 50 units are available. Once they are gone, they are gone forever. I will never do a second edition of this patch.

Sirins, storm warriors and time machines

I recently had the pleasure of working on a favourite subject of mine, sirins and harpies. David, aka Sinistral Mortimer on instagram, came from Bratislava to get this huge piece done in two days in a row. That was a true display of strenght and commitment and will always have my admiration and respect.

A million thanks again David for your blind trust in my work and ways.

I also had the privilege of tattooing two old clients of mine in very interesting subjects such as time machines and storm warriors. I feel lucky as hell! Daniel, and Jonathan from El Verbo Studio , thank you very much again and again. Being able to go deeper on these subjects is something I really want to try.

To end this post and stage of the year, I’m going to show you my first collaboration with my good friend and co-founder partner at Eclipse Tattoo Barcelona El Carlo. We were asked several months ago by Juanito Sin Alma to draw something of our own in a combined piece. It was fluid, funny and really great to work on that creature from the abyss:

Hic Sunt Dracones

…el dragón es la figura ejemplar del monstruo marino, de la serpiente primordial, símbolo de aguas cósmicas, de las tinieblas, de la noche y de la muerte; en una palabra: de lo amorfo y de lo virtual, de todo lo que no tiene aún «forma»…

Mircea Eliade, Lo sagrado y lo profano.

Bajo este lema latino para designar lo inexplorado y peligroso en los mapas de navegación y la reflexión de Mircea Eliade en su obra clásica por excelencia, he iniciado una serie de ilustraciones para adentrarme en el mito del dragón. Como un salto al vacío, tanto físico como intelectual, han sido realizadas sin boceto previo de ningún tipo. Con la plumilla, directamente sobre el papel, he dejado fluir una serie de imágenes descompuestas que cobraban relevancia para su propia composición a medida que avanzaba. Sin reglas y tan solo manteniendo esta forma circular, de momento. En breve espero poder presentar unos cuantos dragones más e ir explorando otros formatos y tamaños.

De igual manera, este pequeño experimento sobre el papel, me sirve para inaugurar mi propia tienda online dedicada exclusivamente a mi obra original o reproducida más personal. Seguiré publicando y produciendo para mi colectivo artístico en Eclipse Tattoo Barcelona y vendiendo a través de esa plataforma, pero ya de una forma más explícita, enfocaré ese material a las derivadas del arte del tatuaje. En este nuevo espacio, que espero actualizar de forma constante, pondré en venta material con un marcado acento experimental. Espero que os guste y como regalo de apertura, los gastos de envío de todas las obras serán gratuitos durante el mes de octubre de 2022.

Storm Warriors

This past summer I had the chance of tattooing a pair of gentleman coming from England and the U.S.A and both asked for my beloved storm warriors. So thanks Adam and Javier for your trust in this particular subject of heavy birds. It’s been a pleasure.

I also had the chance of taking a closer look to one of my favourite tattoos from 2021. This one is on Jonatan and we will continue his leg very soon!
