Hola a todos,

Quiero comunicaros que después de casi cuatro años trabajando en Aloha Tattoos Barcelona, dejo el estudio. La decisión no ha sido nada fácil y no siento más que tristeza por salir de la que ha sido mi casa durante mi mejor etapa como tatuador hasta la fecha.

Si os interesan los motivos de mi marcha y saber un poco más de mi visión sobre mi propio trayecto en el estudio, seguid leyendo por favor. A los críticos con los despliegues de fantasía egomaniaca…mejor nos vemos otro día:

Para los que no me conocían antes de formar parte de Aloha, empecé a tatuar en un pequeño estudio de barrio en l’Hospitalet de Llobregat en el 2005. Se llamaba Nahkoé Tattoos & Piercing y pasé allí siete años junto a la mejor trabajadora que yo he conocido en este mundo a día de hoy : Cris Rofes. Como piercer y manager del estudio me enseñó absolutamente todo y fue la responsable absoluta de mi continuidad como tatuador, pues no fueron pocos los momentos en que hubiera querido dejarlo. Conocí también a muchos tatuadores que pasaron por allí pero especialmente a Neco Dias, Rafa de Blas y Dejan Furlan. Aprendí de todos ellos y son mis maestros pese a que Sergi Besa me inició en todos los aspectos del tattoo.
No abandoné la nave aún en los peores momentos de la crisis, sacrificando mi tiempo, esfuerzo y dinero para seguir adelante. Cuando finalmente el estudio cerró, Neco me ofreció un puente de trabajo en su estudio de Oporto (que me ayudó tanto moral como económicamente) y Monga me abrió las puertas de Aloha en Barcelona para que tuviera un lugar al que poder llevar a mis clientes. Tampoco olvidaré el mismo ofrecimiento que me hicieron Dani Soriano y Toni Delgado para mover mi agenda al ya desaparecido My Way Tattoo de l’Hospitalet, ¡os lo agradezco aún hoy en día!

Ese fue el inicio de mi etapa en Aloha. Pese a que ya conocía a Monga y los miembros del estudio por haberme tatuado en el antiguo emplazamiento del barrio de Gracia, la experiencia fue, como poco, chocante. Durante años, yo y creo que muchos otros también, seguíamos de cerca la evolución del estudio más creativo de la ciudad y teníamos en él un referente profesional de indudable valor artístico y ético. Si alguna vez pensé en trabajar en otro sitio que no fuera Hospitalet, ese fue Aloha. Con la apertura del nuevo local en el Passatge del Crédit nº8 de Barcelona, me atrevería a decir si me lo permitís, que se escribió un nuevo capítulo en la Historia del tattoo de esta ciudad. Eso, amigos, está al alcance de poquísima gente y la fiesta de inauguración del estudio fue la mejor prueba de ello. La aportación de obras originales para la expo de apertura del estudio-galería por parte de tatuadores nacionales e internacionales, tanto por el número como por la calidad, no ha sido superada ni tenía precedentes en Barcelona o en el resto del país. Han pasado cinco años desde entonces y me sigo sintiendo un privilegiado por haber participado.

Yo entré al año siguiente de ese evento y como he dicho antes, empecé a tatuar exclusivamente a mis clientes de l’Hospitalet que venían con cuentagotas. Con anterioridad, y gracias a la iniciativa de Carlo, fundé mi propio proyecto de producción de prints de calidad que fue el embrión de mi actividad posterior en La Cobra Negra Tattoo Art Gallery y lacobranegrashop.com. Con muy pocos tattoos que hacer, muchos prints de los que ocuparme y más ilusión de la que entra en tres cuerpos, me impliqué al máximo en el estudio.
En no mucho tiempo más, Monga me pasó mi primer cliente propio de Aloha y desde entonces no paré de profundizar en el estilo del black and grey y el lettering mayoritariamente, así como haciendo todo el trabajo de walk-in disponible junto a Rotor y los demás. No recuerdo ya exactamente la secuencia ni los meses pero al poco lacobranegrashop.com creció en volumen de negocio y Monga me propuso ocuparme de ella. Pasé entonces de producir mis propios prints y los de otros colegas bajo mi sello a hacerlo a mayor escala para Aloha y La Cobra.
Desde entonces, he ayudado a producir una cantidad bastante grande de prints, sketchbooks y camisetas para mis colegas. La lista la podéis encontrar en la sección bio de esta misma web. Eso me condujo también a acompañar a Monga y Carlo a sus convenciones de Milan y Londres para ocuparme del merch que yo mismo diseñaba y producía. Me divertí y aprendí. Todo el agradecimiento es poco por esos viajes en dónde no pagué nada y lo gané todo.

Ya fuera tatuando o haciéndome cargo de los prints y la venta online, cada vez me iba mejor y tenía más trabajo. Las sucesivas exposiciones de La Cobra Negra Tattoo Art Gallery fueron un éxito en su mayoría y una contribución en sí mismas para la escena del tattoo en la ciudad de Barcelona. Un espacio dedicado de forma exclusiva y permanente a mostrar las diferentes variantes del arte del tatuaje producido por tatuadores es EXCEPCIONAL. Me siento orgulloso de todas las horas de jodienda y esfuerzo al lado de las dos mentes que lo hicieron posible una y otra vez : Monga y Rotor. Para los que no lo sepan todavía, Rotor aportó años de experiencia en el mundo de la ilustración y la edición de fanzines así como en exposiciones colectivas, y eso fue fundamental para el desarrollo de la galería desde el primer momento. Combinando estos factores con la experiencia, iniciativa y poder de convocatoria de Monga en el mundo del tattoo, conseguimos sacar adelante con un esfuerzo comunitario bestial todos los eventos y presentaciones.
Preparar las expos y participar en algunas de ellas completaban para mí una experiencia ya de por sí estimulante como tatuador. Por mi parte y sé que desde la de los demás también, esperamos haber ofrecido un contenido de calidad en esas ocasiones para todos los visitantes. No es nada fácil programar una expo tras otra durante años intentando no caer en la repetición o en los clichés del mundo del tattoo.

Junto a Monga, Carlo y Rotor, destaco sin pestañear el contacto profesional y humano con los miembros de la A.T.F de la cual formo parte. En el verano de 2012 estuvimos todos juntos para esta imagen tomada por un fotógrafo turista ocasional que pasaba por allí en ese preciso momento:

Faltan otros miembros nacionales e internacionales de la familia como Jarno Kantanen o Jonas Nyberg, El Javi Aloha, Diego Brandi, Victor Kan o Dave Ramirez en la foto, más los que me dejo por no acordarme! Mandadme un mail y os inserto. Además contamos con más guests de los que puedo recordar ahora mismo, entre ellos talentos indiscutibles como Rudy Fritsch, Theo Mindell, Deno, Guy le Tattooer, Paul Dobleman, Rempe, Matt Bivetto, Walter de Souza Lobo, JB Marks, Billi Boi, Bueno, Jesus Cuesta…Sin contar los guests que estuvieron en el antiguo Aloha : Chad Koeplinger, Bert Krak, Steve Boltz, Eli Quinters, Eric Von Bartholomaus… la lista es inabarcable para los fans del coleccionismo tatuajero.

Toda esta energía y aglomeración de vidas dedicadas al tattoo se concentró en esos años 2011, 2012, 2013 y 2014. Ya he escrito un buen texto y ni siquiera os he hablado en profundidad de todo lo que he vivido en Aloha Tattoos Barcelona. Sin ánimo de ahondar en el exquisito olor de nuestros propios pedos, supongo que eso sería material para un libro de entrevistas cruzadas conjunto, donde Monga tendría el protagonismo como no puede ser de otro modo. Periodistas hipsters, estáis avisados de una beta a explotar con nosotros. Risas garantizadas, histeria, beneficios a raudales.
En estos años algunos artículos han sido publicados en revistas especializadas y otras muchas veces se nos olvidó contestar a las entrevistas directamente. También hemos tenido la suerte de contribuir en libros recopilatorios de flash de calidad en varias ocasiones. Para los interesados en saber más sobre el estudio, hay un más que interesante libro llamado » Forever The New Tattoo» editado por R. Klanten y F. Schulze para Gestalten, en dónde Monga hace un repaso a su propia trayectoria y a la de Aloha. Además,  si no me equivoco, a lo largo de 2016 verá la luz una publicación inglesa en donde el estudio y todos sus componentes pasados y presentes tienen un apartado propio.
Doy las gracias de nuevo por incluirme y publicitar mi trabajo a tan alto nivel.

Y sin ser la línea argumental principal de los acontecimientos de mi vida, algo sucedió hace más de dos años a fecha de hoy. Carlo abandonó Aloha después de trabajar durante diez años junto a Monga. Reconozco que su salida marcó un punto de inflexión en el día a día del estudio pero aún y así seguimos trabajando a un ritmo y nivel muy alto. Además me quedé con su cabina de trabajo y la decoré como un ser humano no soviético. Antes he citado a mis maestros, sumadle a él.
Al año siguiente Rotor y Dimoni, que se había incorporado recientemente, también nos dejaron. Los motivos no me pertoca a mí explicarlos, ¡preguntadles a ellos si queréis! Gracias a nuestra convivencia demente entre esos muros con niños fantasma que se sacuden la sardina en la oscuridad, hoy tengo dos amigos más con un futuro tan negro como el mío. Sumad a Rotor también. Néstor te quiero pero nos tenemos que conocer más rey.

Para Septiembre del 2015 y encarando la convención de Londres con Monga, mi implicación en el estudio había rebasado cualquier expectativa inicial. En cuatro años había montado, expandido y manejado la tienda online, producido gran cantidad de merchandise para Aloha y mis colegas, colaborado en todas y cada una de las expos de La Cobra Negra, llevado las redes sociales del estudio y la galería simultáneamente, ayudado en el diseño photoshopero de logos y publicidades junto a Peter, implicado en el management diario…¡joder si hasta tatuaba! Y más que nunca por cierto, y de forma periódica y mensual, en el Unity Tattoo de Granada también. Gracias Monga, Dave Ramirez y David Sánchez por la oportunidad de trabajar en el sur.  Creo que el agotamiento hizo mella en mí y me cargué a la espalda todas mis preocupaciones domésticas que no detallaré aquí y jamás llevé al trabajo. Pido perdón aquí a todos mis amigos en el estudio si irradié mal humor en esos momentos.

El final de este tocho que habéis leído por cotilleo puro es el motivo de mi marcha supongo. A ver si logro satisfacer esa curiosidad:

Me marcho de Aloha Tattoos Barcelona después de toda esta potentísima experiencia en el tattoo porque estoy agotado. No es algo que se solucione con vacaciones y ya no puedo depender de las decisiones que tome nadie para construir mi futuro como persona y tatuador. Sé que muchos de vosotros andáis por libre como tatuadores, pero como ya habéis leído antes, yo siempre he jugado en equipo y a cubierto. Entender que me tengo que espabilar ha sido muy duro para mí. Aloha, además, encara una etapa de renovación absoluta en la que necesita el 200% de implicación de sus nuevos miembros y una dosis enorme de fe y trabajo. Yo no puedo dar eso y me apena pensar que solo me encamino hacia los giros más oscuros y pesados del egocentrismo. Monga, tronk, perdona mi falta de fe en estos momentos. Soy plenamente consciente de todos los hechos acontecidos durante mi etapa en Aloha. Debido a eso, creo que estoy en el top five de entendedores de lo que significa lo que hemos hecho juntos y de lo que hemos intentado aportar a nuestra propia cultura profesional. Obviamente, te sumo también.

En Aloha lo aprendí todo de nuevo.

Inicio ahora una nueva etapa personal y profesional. Por libre y a ciegas. Amigos y clientes, estoy siempre disponible para hablar sobre vuestros tattoos y material para vuestras bandas de rock. Todo este rollo que he soltado antes es solo ciencia masturbación si vosotros no venís. Hello everyone,

I want to comunicate that after almost four years of working at Aloha Tattoos Barcelona, I leave the studio. It hasn´t been an easy choice and I feel deeply sad for getting out of my house during my best time as a tattooer to the present day.

If you are interested in the reasons of my departure and my own view of my experience in the studio, please keep on reading. If you are willing to criticize my display of egomaniac fantasy…we can catch up another day:

For those of you who didn’t know me before I joined Aloha, I started tattooing in a little studio in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) around 2005. It was called Nahkoé Tattoos and Piercing and I spent seven years there along with the best worker I’ve ever known up today: Cris Rofes. She teached me everything as a manager and piercer. She also was the responsible for my continuity as a tattooer because I thought many times to give up. I’ve known there many tattooers too, the best of them were Neco Dias, Rafa de Blas and Dejan Furlan. I’ve learned from them all and I call them my masters although Sergi Besa introduced me in all aspects of tattooing.
I didn’t leave the ship even in the worst times of this recent crisis, making a sacrifice in time, effort and money to keep moving forward. Neco offered me a guest spot in his portuguese tattoo shop when we finally closed down Nahkoé. This helped me a lot both morally and economically. At the same time, Monga offered me a place at Aloha to tattoo my clients exclusively. I will never forget the same offer done by Dani Soriano and Toni Delgado to move my agenda to the recently disappeared «My Way Tattoo» from l’Hospitalet. I’m still grateful.

This was the beginning of my stage at Aloha. The experience was shocking although I knew Monga and the other guys from getting tattooed by them at their old location in the Gracia neighbourhood.  Me and many others I guess, were following the evolution of the most creative tattoo shop in town for years. We regarded Aloha as a professional referent of undeniable artistic and ethic value. If I ever thought of working at another place outside Hospitalet, it was Aloha. With the opening of the new and big Aloha location, I can say with your permission, a new chapter in the history of Barcelona’s tattoo history was written. This is a unique achievement unreachable for an immense majority and the opening show was the best prove of it. The contribution by many national and international tattooers hasn’t been overcome neither in quantity nor quality in our city. Five years have passed and I still feel priviliged for my contribution on this day and place.

I joined Aloha the year after this event took place. In the mean time and thanks to Carlo’s initiative, I started my own brand of quality prints for tattooers. This would be the beginning phase of my later work at lacobranegrashop.com. With few tattoos to be done and a lot of prints to take care of I got involved in the studio with a blast of energy and motivation.
Not longer after Monga passed to me my first Aloha client. From then on I focused my work on the black and grey style and lettering mostly. I also did the walk-in tattoos along with Rotor and the other guys. I can not remember the exact date when lacobranegrashop.com increased its sales and Monga offered me to take care of it. I just quit my own brand to keep on producing and sale the stuff for Aloha and La Cobra.
From then on, I’ve helped to produce a huge ammount of prints, sketchbooks and T-shirts for my colleagues. You can find the list here in the bio section of my blog. This work drove me to help Monga and Carlo in their travels to the London and Milano Tattoo Conventions in order to sell the stuff I’ve designed and produced for lacobranegrashop.com . I’m still grateful for those travels where I spent nothing and earned everything.

Things were going well for me either tattooing or taking care of the online sales. The art shows at La Cobra Negra were mostly a success and a contribution for the Barcelona tattoo community. A permanent space focused on showing the different faces of the tattoo art produced only by tattooers it’s EXCEPTIONAL. I feel proud of every hour spent in the struggle side by side with the pair of minds who made it possible time after time : Monga and Rotor. For those who don’t know it yet, Rotor’s expertise into the illustration and fanzine world made the difference in the development of the gallery from day one. This, combined with Monga’s huge experience in the tattoo world and his convening power too, made us able to succeed time after time in presenting all the expos.
Preparing the shows and being able to participate in some of them completed an stimulating experience for me as a tattooer. We hope to have offered a quality content in those shows for all our visitors and guests. It’s not easy to schedule show after show during years without falling into repetition or the tattoo world clichés.

Beside Monga, Carlo and Rotor, I point out the professional and personal link with all the A.T.F members. We were all together in the summer of 2012 and we got occasionally photographed by a tourist who appeared to be a real pro :

All this energy and lifes dedicated to the tattoo work were joined together during the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. I’ve written a lot of words and I haven’t gone deep into my experience at Aloha. I guess this would be an excellent stuff for a book of crossed interviews where Monga would have a lot to say. Hipster journalists, be aware of this gold mine… guaranteed laughs, hysteria, lots of money.
During this years, some articles had been published on specialized magazines and many other times we just forget to answer back to the interviews they sent us. We’ve been also lucky to participate in tattoo flash compilations. For those interested in knowing more about Aloha, there is an interesting book named «Forever The New Tattoo» published by Gestalten where Monga speaks about its own and the studio too.
I give thanks again to been promoted in such a high level.

And…without being a major event in my life, Carlo left Aloha two years ago. After working alongside with Monga during ten years, he started a carreer on his own. I must say that his departure was a breaking point for us but we kept on working at a very high level. Anyway…I got his work station and I decorated it as real non soviet human being. I talked about my masters before, he is one of them too.
The year after Carlo’s departure, Rotor and Dimoni left us too. If you want to know the reasons…just ask them! Is not my work to explain their careers. Thanks to our daily life in the studio alongside our ghost children who play with themselves in the darkness ( yes dudes, Aloha has some ghosts living in the basement. They are children and they are cool. No jokes ), today I have two more friends who share my black future. Rotor is my master too. Nestor I love you but we have to know each other better.

On September 2015, heading for the London Tattoo Convention once again, my implication with the studio was beyond any initial suspicion. In four years I managed our online shop, produced a significant ammount of merch for Aloha and my friends, contributed to all the art shows, managed the social media of Aloha and La Cobra, helped in the photoshop design alongside Peter of logos and promos, a daily implication in the shop management….I was also tattooing!!! And more than ever on a monthly basis also at Unity Tattoo Granada. Thanks again Monga, Dave and David for the opportunity of working in South Spain. I was exhausted and carried my self with many domestic problems I’ve always tried to keep out of the shop. I must apologize to my colleagues and friends if I sent out bad vibrations those days.

I guess you want to know about my reasons to leave Aloha. I’ll try to satisfy your curiosity:

I leave Aloha after all this amazing experience into the tattoo culture because I’m tired. I can’t solve it with some days off and I can’t longer depend on some other calls to build my future both as a tattooer and individual. I know many of you are freelance tattooers, but as you read before, I’ve always been a team player. It’s been very hard for me to understand that I must look out for myself. Aloha is facing an incredible challenge in a new stage of renovation and needs a 200% implication state of mind from all the new crew. I can’t give that anymore and I’m sad to think I’m becoming more egocentric. Monga, forgive my lack of faith in these moments. I’m completely aware of all the things that happened during my days at Aloha. Thanks to that, I guess I’m in the top five people who understand what we’ve done together and what we’ve tried to do for our profession. Obviously, you are my master too.

I learned everything from the start at Aloha.

I’m starting a new professional and personal stage in my life. Free and blindly. Friends and clients, I’m always available to talk about your new tattoos and stuff for your rock bands.
